It feels like I was just standing on a California beach with Jordyn and Max, laughing as the tide came rushing in around us. Somehow, only a few weeks later, their Club at Corazon wedding was here. The day came incredibly quickly, yet once we arrived, time seemed to slow down. There were so many little moments I wanted to hold onto.
After getting to photograph these two adventuring through Los Angeles for their engagement session, I already knew how much fun their wedding would be. What I wasn’t prepared for was just how emotional it would feel.
The Club at Corazon has always felt like a little piece of Europe tucked into Central Ohio. Its warm stone, lake views, and Tuscan-inspired architecture made such a beautiful backdrop for Jordyn and Max’s summer wedding day.
More than anything, though, this day was about people.
I loved watching Jordyn and Max’s families come together throughout the day. There was so much genuine affection between everyone, and you could feel how excited their people were to see these two become a family.
There were also moments when the people who couldn’t physically be there felt especially close. I found myself thinking about Max’s mom and how much joy she would have felt seeing him in that moment. It was incredibly moving. I’m not sure I’ve cried that hard at a wedding in quite some time.
Those are the parts of wedding days that stay with me. Of course I love a gorgeous portrait and beautiful details, but the photographs that become more valuable with time are often the ones filled with people, relationships, and emotion. Jordyn and Max’s day had so much of that.
Photographing this wedding also felt extra special because of how recently we had been together in California. A few weeks earlier, we were wandering through Beverly Hills, dancing to unexpected live music, climbing around the cliffs, and eventually getting absolutely soaked by the Pacific.
Now they were surrounded by everyone they loved, getting married at the Club at Corazon.
I love getting to see both sides of a couple’s story like this. Their engagement session was an adventure with just the three of us, while their wedding showed me the community surrounding them. Seeing the way Jordyn and Max love each other is wonderful. Seeing how deeply they are loved by everyone else made it even better.
Once the reception started, the emotions gave way to an entirely different energy.
I always love working with Brad because I know the music—and the vibes—are going to be good. This party, though, was on another level. Jordyn and Max also came prepared with one of my favorite reception ideas I’ve seen in a while: table captains.
Each table had a designated captain, complete with their own captain’s hat. Their responsibilities included maintaining general table vibes, taking selfies, and, apparently, accepting their position with the utmost seriousness.
And these captains DELIVERED.
There were table cheers. There were hugs between captains. Some took it upon themselves to grab entire platters and bring drinks back for everyone at their table. What started as a funny wedding detail somehow became part of the personality of the entire reception.
It was impossible not to laugh watching everyone fully commit to their roles.
By the time the dance floor filled up, it felt like every person in the room was completely invested in celebrating Jordyn and Max. The energy was contagious, and it was exactly the kind of reception I love photographing—joyful, a little chaotic in the best possible way, and full of moments happening everywhere you looked.
From getting soaked together in California to watching them become husband and wife at the Club at Corazon, I’m so grateful I got to document this little chapter of Jordyn and Max’s story.
Their wedding was beautiful, but what I’ll remember most is how it felt. I’ll remember their families coming together. I’ll remember the tears, the table captains enthusiastically embracing their duties, the cheers across the room, and a dance floor that did not disappoint.
Some wedding days seem to fly by. Somehow, this one gave us time to notice all of it.
Congratulations, Jordyn and Max. What an absolute joy it has been.
