A Love That Kept Finding Its Way Home | Nicole & Matthew’s Bluestone Wedding
There are some weddings that stay with me because of how beautiful they are. Then there are the weddings that linger because every decision carries a piece of the couple’s story. Nicole and Matthew’s Bluestone wedding was one of those days.
One of my favorite things about photographing weddings is discovering the meaning behind the places couples choose. Beautiful venues are wonderful, but they’re even more special when they’ve already been woven into a relationship long before the wedding day. Nicole and Matthew could have chosen anywhere to celebrate. Instead, they stood in a place that had already witnessed so many chapters of their love story.
These two first met while attending Ohio State University. At a fraternity party, they happened to be assigned to the same room, beginning a connection neither of them realized would shape the rest of their lives. Although they dated on and off over the years, life had a funny way of bringing them back together again and again.
Long before they were planning a wedding, Nicole had unknowingly written Matthew into her future.
After a difficult breakup in high school, Nicole’s older sister encouraged her to make a list of everything she hoped to find in a husband someday. It was a thoughtful way of reminding her not to settle for less than she deserved. Years later, as Matthew continued reappearing in her life, Nicole realized something remarkable. Every quality on that list had quietly been there all along. The man she had been hoping for kept finding his way back to her.
That kind of story deserves a venue with history.
The Bluestone wasn’t simply a beautiful backdrop for their wedding day. Throughout their relationship, Nicole and Matthew had attended countless concerts there together. Returning to that same stage to promise forever transformed a place they already loved into one they’ll never experience the same way again. I absolutely love when couples choose locations that already mean something to them because the photographs become layered with memories that stretch far beyond a single day.
Music has always been part of their relationship, and it became one of the most meaningful threads woven throughout the celebration.
One of the sweetest moments of the reception came when Matthew’s brother and sister-in-law took the stage to perform a beautiful live serenade. As they sang, Nicole and Matthew’s immediate families shared slow dances together around the room. It wasn’t elaborate or overproduced. Instead, it felt deeply personal—a quiet reminder that this marriage was being celebrated by the people who knew them best.
The music continued long after dinner, and somehow the evening became even more fitting.
As the reception carried on, Matthew stepped onto the stage with his own band to perform for everyone they love. Watching Nicole stand front row, cheering louder than anyone else in the room, was one of my favorite moments of the entire day. Between songs, Matthew would point into the crowd, smile from ear to ear, and proudly announce, “That’s my wife!” It was impossible not to smile along with every guest in the room.
Those are the moments I’ll remember most.
Not simply the beautiful details or the historic architecture of the Bluestone, but the way every part of the day reflected who Nicole and Matthew truly are. Their wedding wasn’t built around trends or expectations. It celebrated the places that shaped them, the music that connected them, and the people who had been cheering for them from the very beginning.
Nicole and Matthew, thank you for trusting Cody and me to document such an incredibly meaningful day. It was an honor to witness a love story that refused to let timing get in the way. We couldn’t be happier that your paths kept crossing until they finally became one.
Congratulations to you both. I have a feeling the best chapters of your story are still ahead.
