There is always something a little bittersweet about photographing our final wedding of the year. By the time late fall arrives, Cody and I are usually surrounded by galleries full of beautiful Ohio weddings, with editing keeping us busy well into the colder months. Still, knowing we won’t be photographing another wedding together until spring always makes that last celebration feel extra special.
I couldn’t have imagined a sweeter way to close out our wedding season than with Megan and Alex at Pinnacle Golf Club in Grove City, Ohio. The autumn colors were absolutely breathtaking, the weather was wonderfully mild, and their entire day was filled with the kind of genuine emotion that reminds me why I love being a wedding photographer.
Megan and Alex’s story began while Megan was working as a travel nurse. Their life together has taken them to different corners of the United States, building a relationship full of adventures and new places to call home.
One of those adventures even included their proposal in front of Mount Rainier, where they had their engagement photographs taken against the most incredible mountain backdrop.
Because they already had those beautiful engagement photos, I didn’t have the opportunity to photograph Megan and Alex before their wedding day. I’ll admit that I always get a little nervous when I haven’t worked with a couple ahead of time. Engagement sessions give us a chance to get comfortable together, and I love knowing how couples naturally interact before we step into the excitement of their wedding.
As it turns out, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. From the moment we arrived, Megan and Alex felt like old friends. Their warmth, kindness, and easy connection made photographing them feel completely effortless.
Of all the beautiful moments from Megan and Alex’s wedding, their first look is one I know I’ll remember for a long time.
Cody and I have photographed so many first looks over the years, but there was something especially moving about this one. As soon as Megan and Alex saw each other, it felt as though the rest of the world disappeared.
We were standing right there with our cameras, but somehow it felt like we were witnessing a moment that belonged entirely to the two of them. The happy tears just kept coming, and I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen so many sweet, emotional tears shared during a first look.
Nothing felt staged or hurried. They simply took their time loving each other, soaking in the moment, and letting themselves feel everything.
Those are always my favorite photographs. The ones where you can almost feel what it was like to be standing there.
Ohio really showed off for Megan and Alex’s wedding day. The trees surrounding Pinnacle Golf Club were filled with gorgeous autumn colors, creating the most beautiful backdrop for their portraits.
There is something about fall weddings in Ohio that feels almost magical when the timing is just right. The rich colors, soft light, and comfortable temperatures all come together for those dreamy portraits that so many couples imagine when choosing an autumn wedding date.
We couldn’t have asked for a prettier setting to celebrate these two. Between the vibrant foliage and the way Megan and Alex naturally gravitated toward each other, their portraits were such a joy to create.
After traveling and living in so many places together, it felt especially lovely to capture this chapter of their story surrounded by the beauty of an Ohio fall.
One of the things I loved most about Megan and Alex was how much they genuinely cared about every person who came to celebrate with them.
Throughout the wedding day, they made time to greet their guests and share little moments with the people they love. There was such a wonderful feeling of connection throughout the celebration. It never felt like they were simply moving through a schedule of wedding events. They were truly present for all of it.
And when it came time for the reception, everyone was ready to celebrate.
Their dance floor was so much fun, filled with the kind of energy that makes us want to keep photographing just a little longer. After such an emotional beginning to the day, watching everyone let loose and enjoy themselves was the perfect way to celebrate.
Of course, the evening had one more particularly sweet surprise. Guests were treated to a Graeter’s ice cream truck, which might be one of my favorite ways to end a wedding reception. There is something so fun and nostalgic about finishing a beautiful celebration with ice cream surrounded by your favorite people.
As Cody and I packed up our cameras after Megan and Alex’s wedding, I couldn’t help feeling that familiar mix of gratitude and sadness that comes with the end of another wedding season.
After months of spending our weekends documenting love stories, it always feels strange to know that our next wedding together is still months away. But I also love having a day like this one to look back on as we head into the quieter season.
Megan and Alex reminded me of everything I love about photographing weddings. The genuine emotion, the unexpected friendships, the beautiful little moments between all the big ones, and the privilege of being invited into such an important day.
Megan and Alex, thank you for making us feel so welcome and for trusting us to capture your celebration. Your wedding was the most beautiful way to close out our year, and I couldn’t be happier that we got to be part of it.
Here’s to all the adventures still ahead of you, wherever life takes you next.
