Scioto Reserve Wedding | Miranda & Cam

Miranda and Cam met at Kent State, where they were both working at a bar. Technically, Cam started out as a bouncer, and Miranda admitted she would find reasons to wander outside just so she could talk to him.

And according to Cam’s wedding vows, his very first words to her were, “Do you think I should shave my chest hair?”

Standing in front of all their favorite people on their wedding day, he laughed about how incredibly happy he was that particular pickup line actually worked.

But their relationship got serious knowing there was a pretty big expiration date looming over that first chapter together. Miranda already knew she was leaving for London for a year to earn her master’s degree through an Oxford program. She was upfront with Cam from the beginning: if they were going to do this for real, he needed to know she was leaving.

And they did it anyway.

While Miranda was overseas, Cam was in Buffalo, and for a while they thought that might eventually become home for both of them. Instead, life brought them back to Columbus and, more specifically, Grandview — right near two familiar faces, Bridget and Logan. Cam and Logan had been fraternity brothers, which is how Miranda and Cam eventually found themselves playing a very important role in Bridget and Logan’s wedding: fanny-pack flower girl and flower guy.

The funny part is that when I photographed them walking down the aisle that day, tossing petals from their fanny packs, they were only about a week away from getting engaged themselves.

And then, finally, it was their turn to get married.

A Very Rainy Wedding Day at Scioto Reserve

Miranda and Cam’s wedding day at Scioto Reserve came with one very determined uninvited guest: the rain.

And not the cute, misty kind of rain that makes everything look romantic in photographs. It rained.

Their plans had always included an outdoor ceremony, and rather than immediately giving that up, everyone stayed flexible. We rearranged the day and moved cocktail hour to before the ceremony, giving the weather a little more time to do its thing.

And then, finally, the skies opened up.

The second we had a window, everyone sprang into action. We ran outside, dried off rows of soaking-wet chairs, got everything into place, and made their outdoor ceremony happen.

There was something so fitting about watching Miranda and Cam roll with all of it. This is a couple whose relationship survived a year across an ocean, different cities, changing plans, and all the unexpected turns that eventually brought them back to Columbus together. A little Ohio rain wasn’t going to be the thing that stopped them from getting married the way they wanted.

After all the waiting, watching the radar, rearranging plans, and wiping down chairs, Miranda finally got to walk down that aisle toward Cam.

And they were married.

Maybe it wasn’t the perfectly clear wedding day anyone would have ordered. But it was joyful, emotional, a little chaotic, incredibly fun, and completely theirs.

And sometimes the days that ask you to let go of the plan a little bit are the ones that give you the best stories afterward.
