Shaina & Joe’s Elegant Wedding at The Westin Great Southern Columbus Ballroom

Wedding

Some couples simply make you feel like you’ve known them for years.

That was exactly how I felt after my very first conversation with Shaina.

From the moment we met, we clicked. She told me how much she loved bright, light-filled imagery and wanted her wedding photographs to feel timeless, joyful, and full of genuine emotion. As we talked through the day, two things immediately stood out as especially important to her: spending meaningful time with her grandmother and making sure we captured every second of the incredible energy that would fill the dance floor during the horah.

Those priorities told me everything I needed to know about who Shaina and Joe are.

A Love Story That Crossed the Country

Shaina and Joe first met here in Ohio before life unexpectedly took them across the country.

During COVID, Joe accepted a job opportunity in San Francisco. Rather than letting distance define their relationship, Shaina packed up her life and followed him west. It’s the kind of story that feels both adventurous and incredibly simple at the same time—when you know you’ve found your person, sometimes the next step is simply saying yes.

Watching them together on their wedding day, it was impossible to imagine their story unfolding any other way.

An Elegant Celebration at The Westin Great Southern

The Westin Great Southern Ballroom was the perfect backdrop for their celebration.

When guests walked into the reception space, they were greeted by an elegant room that somehow felt both grand and incredibly inviting. Holly and Sky of Lavender Haze Wedding Company did an incredible job transforming the ballroom into a space that reflected Shaina and Joe perfectly. Every detail felt intentional, and even more impressive than the beautiful design was the calm atmosphere they created throughout the day. Everything flowed seamlessly from one moment to the next, allowing everyone—especially Shaina and Joe—to simply enjoy the celebration without ever feeling rushed.

Those are always my favorite kinds of wedding days.

When couples are fully present, the photographs naturally become more honest. The laughter is real. The tears aren’t rushed. Every hug lasts just a little bit longer.

The Moments That Mattered Most

One of my favorite parts of photographing weddings is paying attention to the moments couples tell me they’ll treasure long before the wedding ever arrives.

For Shaina, that meant making sure her grandmother was woven throughout the story of the day.

There is something incredibly special about documenting multiple generations together at a wedding. Those photographs become more valuable with every passing year, and I know the images of Shaina with her grandmother will only continue to grow in meaning.

And then came the reception.

One thing I absolutely loved was that Shaina and Joe chose to have a live band. Arch City Lights brought an energy to the ballroom that is hard to replicate. There’s something about live music that invites people onto the dance floor almost instantly, and the room stayed full all night long. Every song felt like an event of its own, and watching everyone celebrate together made it impossible not to smile behind my camera.

The dance floor was packed from the moment the celebration began, and it was every bit as joyful and energetic as Shaina had imagined.

Congratulations, Shaina & Joe

Shaina and Joe’s wedding was the perfect reminder that the most beautiful wedding days aren’t necessarily the ones where everything is extravagant—they’re the ones where every decision reflects the people at the center of it.

From their cross-country love story to the meaningful family moments and the unforgettable celebration that followed, their wedding felt deeply personal from beginning to end.

It was such an honor to document this season of your lives, and I cannot wait to see where your next adventure takes you. Congratulations, Shaina and Joe.
