Sarah and Patrick have the coolest lives. I had the opportunity to see both their home and their business, Barkheimer Barns, for our shoot. Sarah was so sweet to open up their home for me (and the kiddos) and we were greeted with a picnic table full of snacks and activities. I loved hearing about their lives. When Patrick proposed, the two were raising a baby Wallaby. It was basically like a child, that they had to bottlefeed and keep in a Pack N Play. Patrick snuck Sarah’s sister in to decorate their vacation home with balloons, roses, and champagne while they were out one day. When they returned, Sarah’s sister said the baby Wallaby had gotten out and she needed to come in and help catch it. After Patrick proposed, he said out loud “Okay, you guys can come down now,” and family and friends came downstairs from their hiding space. It’s probably one of the most unique and special proposal stories that I have heard.
I hope that you too get to experience Barkheimer Barns one day. The girls got to carry around ‘Bunny’ the baby goat while I met all the animals. They even do goat yoga there! I could have stayed all night. You can tell just how happy Sarah and Patrick make one another. They sent us on our way with fresh eggs from the chickens and flowers cut from their own garden. It was the most amazing night.
